Improving our Environment together
We are aware of our responsibility.
At Landquart Fashion Outlet, sustainability is not just a buzzword or one-off campaign - it is an integral part for us and the way we manage our outlet.
We focus on our key environmental and social impacts and use responsible corporate governance to achieve this. Our sustainability strategy, defined by VIA Outlets B.V. Group, provides the framework as well as ambitious targets, key performance indicator initiatives for our sustainability engagement (for more information, see our global sustainability website and the latest sustainability report).
Key areas of action for us are sustainable buildings, responsible consumption, resilient communities, and sharing and engaging with and for our stakeholder groups. Below we present selected measures that we have implemented for a more sustainable Landquart Fashion Outlet. #
Projects
- Alternative mobility
Landquart Fashion Outlet is very well connected to local and regional rail services by the Rhaetian Railway (RB) and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) thanks to its immediate proximity to Landquart train station. As an incentive to travel by train, we grant Rhaetian Railway travelers with a one-way ticket a free return trip with a minimum purchase value of CHF 100. Holders of an SBB train ticket or a subscription receive additional 10% off the regular outlet price (more information can be found here).
Our Mobility Strategy targets innovative opportunities to engage our stakeholders and provide emissions-lowering transportation alternatives and infrastructure.
Most of our guests travel by personal vehicle to our Centre, which is why an effective EV charger installation plan is also key to reducing our mobility emissions. At Landquart Fashion Outlet, we installed 20 Tesla Superchargers, which accommodate most EV brands and support long distance travel with fast charging.
- Bike Stations
Lower emissions transportation alternatives for our stakeholders include public transport, ridesharing, EV transport and riding bikes. We're working to enhance these opportunities by promoting and incentivising the use of public transport and bike stations to enhance green mobility in the vicinity.
We increased our offering on bike racks around our centre and to improve the cycle lanes, so biking can be an established transport alternative to Landquart Fashion Outlet to be environmentally friendly and healthy at the same time. During our south expansion period we implemented shuttle busses for our tenants and guests at regular intervals.
- Certifications
ISO 14001-certified environmental management system
Since 2021, the environmental management system of the entire portfolio of the VIA Outlets Group has been externally certified according to the internationally recognized ISO 14001 standard. All centers are regularly subjected to internal and external audits for this purpose.
BREEAM In Use Certification.
Each center is managed in accordance with BREEAM In Use ("BREEAM Inventory") criteria. The certification is widely used and recognized worldwide and is used as a sustainability label for existing buildings. Buildings are assessed, for example, in the areas of waste, health or ecology. All centers, including Landquart, have a score of "Very Good" or higher.
- Climate-friendly heating
Thanks to modern heating pumps powered by electricity from renewable sources, we ensure low-emission and efficient heating at the Landquart Fashion Outlet. The heat pumps use heat and the natural refrigerant ammonia for operation to minimize negative climate effects.
- Climate Risk Management
We have carried out a Taxonomy, BREEAM and GRESB aligned climate risk assessment on our asset which you can review in the following link.
- Green Walls
We have planted a diverse range of plants on a wall throughout our centre, creating a pleasant environment for customers while also reducing the amount of CO2 in the air and increasing the biodiversity. Our Green walls helps to improve air quality. The green wall is equipped with a fertilised irrigation system that supplies water from above and is regulated by a control unit installed in the technical room.
- More responsible consumption & brands
We want to offer our customers a unique and increasingly sustainable shopping experience. This means not only working on our own sustainability goals, but also encouraging our brand partners to implement sustainability initiatives and consume more responsibly.
- Solarpanels
We are in the process of installing solar panels on the roofs of our centre.
This project is part of VIA Outlet's ambitious sustainability strategy, which aims to install solar panels on all its centre roofs in the next few years.
In Landquart Fashion Outlet, these panels will be used by our heating/cooling energy company for the functioning of the heat pumps which are in the cellars onsite. In the future, we are also considering installing solar panels which could benefit the electricity consumption. The energy in our centre consuming both in terms of heating/cooling and electricity is very green.
- Sustainable LED light bulbs
After VIA Outlets bought the center in 2017, the strategy from day one has been to switch to more environmentally friendly light sources such as LED, as we have today implemented this in all common areas. 95% of the energy supplied to an incandescent bulb turns into heat, while only 5% turns into visible light. In comparison, an LED bulb can convert around 80% of the energy into light. The result is a light source that can use 10 to 15 times less electricity to produce the same amount of light.
- Waste management
Various types of waste are generated in the outlet, packaging material such as cardboard or foil from deliveries, empty cleaning containers or even electronic waste. To ensure that these valuable resources can be reintroduced into the cycle, we have a strict "Zero Landfill Policy", i.e. we do not dispose of waste in landfills. Our waste management follows the approach of the European waste hierarchy, where avoidance, reuse and recycling always take priority over energy recovery (unsafe, contaminated waste must be disposed of safely) - currently we collect different waste streams we paper/cardboard, foil or glass. The goal at VIA Outlets group level is to increase the recycling rate by 15% by 2025 (base year 2019, more information here).
As a material sustainability topic, we prioritise effective waste management at our Centres. We continuously aim to drive down our waste footprint by lowering the waste we generate and increasing our waste diversions to recycling or reuse, when possible. We currently collect and recycle plastic, paper, glass, electronic materials, and wood in all our Centres. 100% of waste diverted from landfill in Landquart Fashion Outlet.
